PNG is lossless, which is great for crisp graphics but wasteful for photos: a photo, or a screenshot of a photo-heavy page, saved as PNG can be far bigger than it needs to be. JPG is lossy and designed for photographic images, so converting usually brings the size down a lot, which helps with email attachments, upload limits and storage on your phone.
Expect two changes. JPG has no transparency, so transparent areas become white; check logos or icons with see-through backgrounds first, or convert them to WebP, which keeps transparency and still gives small files. And because JPG is lossy, fine detail such as small text in screenshots can soften at low quality settings, so keep the slider near its default of 90 for text-heavy images.
