Watermark PDF

Lay semi-transparent text over your PDF pages to show what a document is for or where it came from. A preview of the first page updates as you go.

Add one PDF to watermark.

or drop a file here

Files never leave your device. Everything runs in your browser.

How to use it

  1. Click "Choose a file" or drop the PDF you want to watermark.
  2. Type the "Watermark text" and pick a layout: Diagonal, Centered or Tiled.
  3. Adjust size, color and opacity while watching the preview of page 1.
  4. Click "Add watermark" and download the finished PDF.

What it does

  • Any language

The browser draws the text itself, so accents, Korean, Japanese and symbols all show up correctly.

  • Three layouts

Run the text diagonally across the page, place one line in the center, or tile it over the whole page.

  • Live preview

The first page updates every time you change the text, size, color or opacity, so you see the result before saving.

  • Only the pages you need

Watermark every page or just a range such as 1-3, 5.

  • No upload

The PDF is processed on your device and never sent to a server, which suits contracts and internal documents.

Good to know

A watermark is faint text laid over a document to say at a glance that it is confidential, a sample or a draft. People add one to quotes and proposals to show where they came from, or to stop a review copy being mistaken for the final version.

An opacity of about 15 to 30% stays visible without hiding the text underneath. This tool places the watermark as an image on top of each page, so the original text can still be selected and searched, but a PDF editor could remove the watermark. If copying must be prevented, also use Protect PDF to block printing, editing and copying.

Questions and answers

Is it free to watermark a PDF here?

Yes. There's no sign-up, and nothing from this site is added to your file.

Can I use non-English text?

Yes. The text is drawn by your browser as an image, so accented letters, Asian scripts and symbols all work.

The watermark is too strong or too faint.

Move the "Opacity (%)" slider and watch the preview. Around 20 to 30% is usually readable without covering the content.

Can I watermark only some pages?

Yes. Under "Pages", choose "Page range" and enter something like 1-3, 5.

Can I remove the watermark later?

This tool can't take a watermark back out, so keep a copy of the original PDF.
